Because there are so many coffee shops in Korea, it is good to break from the norm by offering something else. De Chocolate Coffee is a cafe that centers around all things chocolate. The main sellers is the hot chocolate which offers you a variety of options to find the perfect combination for yourself. Themed around the Callebaut Chocolate, there is the choice of milk, dark and white chocolate which can be served hot, iced or as a blend. The best part is that you can select your own chocolate topping for your drink which include shaved, chunks, or chips of chocolate.  

In addition to the amazing chocolate drinks, De Chocolate Cafe also offers handmade chocolate thats vary in different types.  They also offer a handful of desserts which include cakes, brownies and such. With so much to offer on the menu, it is the perfect place to go to for anyone with a chocolate addiction like myself. 

Sweet Tooth Satisfaction - Sugar De Chou

Sugar De Chou, located in Hongdae, is known to be a cupcake cafe with the cutest yet most simple cupcakes for the price of $4. The popular two flavors include Earl Grey Tea and the Chocolate, but they also offer a Green Tea and Lemon cupcake. Icing for the cupcakes differ depending on the one ordered, which includes an extremely decorative kind when ordered. 

The chocolate cupcake is extremely bold in taste, offering chunks of chocolate chips inside the cupcake which is different to other cupcake shops that finish with a basic cake base. The icing is extremely creamy in texture, offering a strong milky chocolate taste which definitely puts the chocolate over the top. Finished with a topping of sliced almonds, it is the perfect cup of chocolate in a cake. 

The best thing about the menu is that they offer a handful of other drinks to consume with their cupcakes. Opening at 1 in the afternoon and closing at 11PM everyday, it is the place to go to enjoy with a friend or just as a simple study session. They even have delivery services which can be made if you speak Korean of course. The environment is extremely cute offering indoor and outdoor seating with outlets everywhere to charge anything and everything you need, even with seating in the middle of the floor. Another bonus of the cafe is that they offer take out coffee for just $2. Nothing beats a low price and an environment that is relaxing and calm from the outskirts of the crazy Hongdae party night scene.

Sweet Tooth Satisfaction - chocolatyum

chocolatyum is an extremely small and cozy location in Hongdae where they bake all things chocolate which includes cakes and cookies. It is a popular spot to visit for anyone looking for a quick sweet pickup. Because the location is extremely small, there is always a crowd of people exploring the many baked goods and trying to find someone to cater to their taste. Some of the goodies are able to hit the spot and be on point, but there are a few sweets that are not recommended which include the freshly baked Peperro sticks. Nonetheless, it is a place to visit to pick up something sweet.

From exit 9 of the Hongik station on line 2,  go straight until you hit the light. Take a left at the light and go straight you come to a Taco Bell and Tony Moly. Take the street (or following one on you right) and go straight until you reach the next intersection. At the first intersection, take a left and go straight.

Cacao Boom is the one recommendation to make for anyone who is looking to enjoy a fresh cup of hot chocolate. Yes, a fresh cup of hot chocolate in Hongdae and Samcheongdong which is right by Insadong and the famous palace. Cacao Boom is a chocolatier that is known for their hot chocolates. With different kinds of hot chocolates, mild, dark, orange, mint, it is the one place to go to to enjoy real authentic chocolate drinks. Freshly brewed, just the way coffee is brewed, Cacao Boom puts consideration into how much and what kind of chocolate that is used. 

In addition to flavorful hot chocolate, there are many choices of chocolates that are available as well. For those who are looking for a certain percentage of chocolate, there is a refrigerator with a range of percentage which allows you to select the one of your choice. In addition to chocolates of all different percentage, they make fresh chocolates and truffles everyday so the chocolate menu is constantly changing. 

This chocolatier is extremely popular with locals who love to indulge in chocolate and is looking for a place to hang out. In the Hongdae location, like many other cafes, Cacao Boom has wifi available and two seating areas, an indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is centralized around a picnic area with bench seating and the indoor seating is like a regular coffee shop. For colder winter days, there are blankets available for guests to use. 

Be sure to stop by the chocolatier after a day of shopping in Hongdae. This small cozy chocolatier is the place to go for all guests. Chocolate drinks average $6 a cup with chocolate pieces at $2. The chocolatier is one of the very few that offer a "service" which is free chocolate with the purchase of a chocolate beverage.
