Sweet Tooth Satisfaction - Manoffin

I have had a cupcake craving for a long time now, Korea is nothing like America where cupcakes are at every corner. I finally found Manoffin Gallery, a place that sells "muffins"but thankfully it fulfilled part of my cupcake craving. I picked up the strawberry topped with nuts, filled with a strawberry sauce and dried berries as well as the Manoffin original that is topped whip cream and a chocolate Christmas tree.

I am in love with the texture of the Manoffin original. It is fluffy like that of a cupcake, but a Korean style. It is difficult to explain, but it helped to satisfy my cupcake craving. As for the strawberry muffin, the texture is a lot more like that of a muffin. I am in love with the strawberry jam that fills the middle as well as the mix of nuts and dried berries. It was definitely a great touch.

Another obsession I have with these Manoffins is the way they are wrapped. Unlike American cupcakes and muffins that are wrapped and unfolded in one, the Manoffin has a base bottom and a wrapping that circles around the sides. You first rip the side which unfolds the whole muffin but you can still stand it alone and it won't get dirty with the base. Perfect for those germ a phobes like me!

Food Goods - Lemon

We all know lemon is great for beauty fanatics. It not only helps to slim down weight, but it also helps to promote a healthy body. There are many things that you can do with the handy lemon which calls for you to stock up in your fridge. Lemon is great for Vitamin C intake so if you're low on oranges, swap it for a lemon.
  • Daily early morning drink. Mix cold water, honey, and lemon cleanse the body when you wake up. Be sure to drink this on an empty stomach. You can use warm water if you want, but it is not recommended because the heat kills many benefits of lemon and honey. For those who can endure water and lemon directly, it will help you to efficiently detox and lose weight. A whole lemon mixed with a  cup of water is suggested for those who are over 150 pounds and unhealthy, half of a lemon for those who are 150 pounds and healthy.
  • Teeth Whitening. This is by far my favorite and most recommended for both men and women. Simply squeeze the fresh juice from half of a lemon, rub with table salt and baking soda along the teeth. Baking soda is known to help whiten teeth, but lemon gives it that extra boost.
  • Smooth skin. For a simple mask, mash an over-ripe banana with fresh lemon juice and apply to the face and hands for clear and smooth skin. There is also the less messy alternative of a teaspoon of honey, a teaspoon of olive oil, and quarter teaspoon of lemon juice for the hands, elbows, heels and drier areas. I suggest covering up the area for ten minutes with a plastic bag or old pieces of clothing and wash away to reveal beatified skin.
  • Dark spots. There are many areas that women are insecure with when it comes to the body which include underarms, elbows, and dark spots on the face. Simply rub fresh lemon juice on the area for ten minutes and wash away. Over time, the color will gradually lighten.
  • Dandruff treatment. Mix a few tablespoons of fresh lemon with olive oil and rub it into the scalp. I suggest using a shower cap to soak in the treatment for 15 minutes and follow the regular shampoo and conditioner.
  • Itchy scalp. Mix an egg white and lemon juice, massage into the scalp of your head and soak in the treatment with a shower cap for an hour. Follow with your regular hair wash routine. I suggest to practice this twice a week for a month.
  • For those with psoriasis, lemon juice also helps to strengthen the liver enzymes because the liver can make more enzymes from fresh lemon juice than any other food element. Therefore, having half a lemon to a whole lemon a day (depending on your health) will help to clear up your psoriasis.
  • Yellow nails. If you're like me and use nail polish just about daily, the winter colors are probably not so healthy for your nails. Dark colors may turn your nails yellow. Simply brush your nails with lemon juice and baking soda. This will help to lighten the color, not fully revive your natural born color.
Its amazing how the many foods found around the house can help in daily grooming and beauty care. The best thing is the DIY items save a ton of money which adds up when it comes to beauty products. Good luck!

Merry Christmas to All and Happy Birthday to MEEEEE !!

I am blessed to be born on this special day, Christmas day (over in Korea, it is Christmas day already). I am blessed to be on the other side of the world, but still celebrate with a bunch of new friends here in Korea. I am blessed to have a family that face timed me a cake and my niece blow out the candles for me. I am blessed to carry my tradition of having an "ice cream cake" this year, only separated with: ice cream and cake. I am blessed to have you, a true list of supporters who read my blogs. Thank you all. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND BEST WISHES TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.

I also decided to include a photo of my birthday makeup, very simple with bold red lips. Just for laughters, my "ice cream cake" with before and after photos :] Baskin Robbins ice cream flavor: dulce de leche and strawberry madness along with a chocolate cake from Paris Baguette.

Cheap Eats - Pomato Soup

This was perhaps one of the most cheapest eats that I have had in Korea since I've been. Pomato Soup, what seems to be a more edgy touch to the Korean traditional eats attracted me as I was exploring one of the markets over in Guui. I ordered the Pork Katsu which comes with rice and a salad. When I say salad, I mean chopped up lettuce with mayonnaise and a bbq-like sauce. Don't get me wrong, I love my little salad, but the best part of the meal was the price. It only cost me $3.50 because they were running a special promotion on the dish on the random day that I decided to try it.

Pomato Soup is also known for their cheap prices with dishes that range from $4-6. It is quite filling so it is a recommendation on my end! Try the many fried rices or the katsu. You can never go wrong with getting a fried dish imo!

Life in Korea - Junkfood Stash

I am big on food, very big on small eats and junk food. I finally decided to share with the world my "stash." Everyone knows I am big on sweets and chips and when I go shopping, the three C's (cookies, chips, and candy) are always on the top of my list. Sometimes, I spend more money on junk foods than real food.

Nonetheless, I love Korea for its flavored goodies. I am currently addicted to the chocolate covered sunflower seeds which is equivalent to a peanut's M&M, but oh so delicious. I recently bought a 1.5 pound bag of these sunflower seeds. You won't understand until you have tried them!

In addition to the oh so delicious sunflower seeds, I have a stash of the Ganache Macadamia Chocolates that are truffle like squares filled with macadamia nuts. It is delicious! Being that I am big on truffles, with my numerous posts (La Maison Du Chocolat, Leonidas, Lily O'Briens Cafe, teuscher, neuhaus chocolate), I've been on the search here. I haven't found any chocolate truffle places, but I did find a store brand that has helped me satisfy my current cravings: Royal Milk and Dark Chocolate Truffle.

I haven't found any great cookies here, but I did find a whole bunch of chips. Korea doesn't have the many typical plain flavors that we find back in America, but there are a bunch of seafood and sweet chips. For a different craving, these chips have a blast of flavor that is usually puffy inside. I love the big fluff of Asian chips, doesn't taste anything like the flat, thin fried potato chip you find in America. My favorites include the crab shaped chips, puffy fish shaped cuttlefish chip, the sweet potato chip, and the sweet flavored chip topped with black sesame in the shape of a ring.

Lastly, rice cakes and uncooked ramen noodles are a big snack here as well. They even have baby size bags of ramen that are compressed and kid's bite sizes. I have learned to like them, just not as much as the kids do here. They even have the chips where the ramen come in size and a bag of powder for the kids to add it to. All they do is shake it up and enjoy. I know for a fact when I fly back, I will be having a suitcase full of junk food!

Sweet Tooth Satisfaction - Dunkin Donuts

I recently went on a bubble tea crave because I have bubble tea every week back in New York. I thought I wouldn't be able to find any bubble tea in Korea, but who would have ever thought that I'd find it in Dunkin Donuts. The only upset that I have is that the bubble tea here is made of powder which makes me a bit bloated afterwards. I try to stay away but they do have the common flavors of milk tea, green tea, and taro. It definitely helps to satisfy a random craving, although the bubbles are microwaved. I just wish they would sell it to me alone! This way, I'd be able to make my own bubble tea :]

Asia is known to put a twist on American chains in order to satisfy the difference in taste requirements. I love the fact that I was able to find bubble tea in a Dunkin Donuts, along with some of the traditional drinks that they carry back in America. It does cater to the taste of the Asians as well as those American drinks as well.

One thing that I do want to point out is the Dunkin Donuts in Korea definitely has better looking donuts than those in the states. The best part is Dunkin Donuts have cake. These cakes are way too pretty to eat which makes me a little sad. Lastly, the price difference is high. Dunkin Donuts is known to be the cheap spot for coffee, not in Korea. As seen on the right, donuts cost $1.50 and you can find some for a little cheaper, but it usually starts at over $1 per donut.

Splurge of the Week - Missha

It is impossible to live in Korea and not pick up beauty and makeup products. It is the time of the year where businesses throws all type of sales for the holiday season, the best time for shopping and splurging on yourself. This week's beauty and makeup splurge is from Missha.

I picked up three Pure Source masks which consists of honey, pomegranate, and aloe. For just about a dollar each, it was worth a try to see how well it would work on my skin. That, and I have never seen a honey mask before and I know honey and oatmeal works wonders for the skin! I was not a big fan of the honey smell, but it was an amazing 20 minute touch.

Next, I picked up a top coat that I forgot to get bring from the states. On sale for just $4, the brush is thicker than those in the states. It allows for one quick sweep of color through the nail and tops my color with a shiny coat. It is a great soft finish for the Missha Lucid Nail Care.

Following, I picked up a Creamy Matte Lip Rouge in PK03, a pink that I have been dying to get for a while now. Today was finally the day! The matte color works extremely well with my lip, I just wish there was a bit more moisture to the lipstick.

Near Skin Bio White, is one of the popular lines of Missha. I decided to give it a try with the Healing Eye Treatment which is certified but he KFDA that uses white peptide bio technology to minimize fine lines. For those without wrinkles, it is good to prevent and protect earlier.

Lastly, I found an extremely moisturizing Excellent Milky Body Oil for a low price. American brand products can be hard to find in Korea for a low price, but I hope this will help my dry skin due to the difference in water.

Sweet Tooth Satisfaction - Mister Donut

I have been dying to try Mister Donut since I first arrived in Korea. The donuts are absolutely delicious, they fall between a yeast and a cake donut. I picked up the advertised glaze ring donut which was not as sweet as the American donuts. In addition to the good eat, it was a bit expensive costing $1.30 for just one donut. It is really worth it when you just have those cravings though!

Sweet Tooth Satisfaction - Paris Baguette

A Korean bakery chain with locations across the world, Paris Baguette is an extremely well known bread and pastry store. Paris Baguette is one of the most popular coffee places in Korea. The prices are pretty much the same in all chains, including those in America. The only difference is those in Korea have a more versatile selection of bread, which is amazing!

Many breads are stuffed with a cheese and sweet jam, but there are many other options as well. A few of my favorites at Paris Baguette is the Tapioca Bread, Stewed Bread, Chocolate Croissant, Strawberry Tart, Lava Cake, Garlic bread which is topped with a bit of sugar. In fact, all breads in Korea is topped with a bit of sugar. It is a little different, something to get used to, but I admit that it is pretty good. In addition to the breads and pastries, the royal pudding in a glass bottle is amazing as well. The best part about it is having a souvenir that you can use around the house for other liquid goods.

A simple pastry store with walk in and pick up the exact goodies you want with a paper box and tongs. When ready, all you have to do is go on line and pay (order drinks here as well) and you are well on your way to a great breakfast, and or snack. I do not recommend eating these pastries over night because it takes away from the texture and flavors, although it is still delicious! For those back in New York, hit up Ktown on 32nd street to satisfy these cravings.

Today's Lunch - Korean McDonalds

I decided to fulfill a craving for McDonalds today and skipped out on the Bulgolgi burger after trying it at Burger King and just got the Big Mac meal. I love Korea for how pretty and perfect everything is. The Big Mac is perfectly put together, unlike those back at home that is just slapped together. Best part is, it definitely tasted like the meal back home so it helps to satisfy those cravings that you have! Built to satisfy :]

A few pointers for those who are eating at fast food chains in Korea: separate your garbage. When finished with your meal, there is a slot for ice and leftover liquid from your drinks you did not finish. There is also a place to stack your cups, and a separate garbage for lids and straws. Some places also have a separate disposal for the paper that comes with your tray and finally your garbage. I was definitely confused the first time I was in Burger King, but I'm pro now!

Beauty Gadgets - Slim Face Massage Roller

A little weird, but yes, a slim face massage roller. You simply roll along your face and it will help to slim down your face. The way it works is it helps to remove the water tension in your face, thus making your face slimmer. You simply roll your retention from your face to other parts of your body. It also feels a bit sore after rolling along your face, equivalent to a workout for the face. You will feel a bit of soreness and pain in your skin, but it is all worth it. By working out the muscles on your face, you are tightening the skin and slimming down the fat. Another great invention!

Todays Lunch - Vecchia & Nuovo

A two floor classy and elegant brunch place in Gangnam, central Seoul, that brings me back home for a moment. Vecchia & Nuovo is an upscale and pricey place for a brunch, but the food and drinks are amazing! For those who are willing to pay $11 for a drink, and $22 for a kid sized meal that brings you back home, this is the place to go. Although the prices may be way too expensive, the quality of the food makes up for the prices. These dishes can be paired with those dishes in American restaurants for the good quality food. Also remember, there is no need for tips in Korea, another plus to eat out!
I apologize on skipping out on the photos for lunch, it was too much of a high class place that I did not want to seem like a tourist. For my lunch, I ordered the Earl Grey Tea Boba (everyone knows that I left America crying about not being able to have bubble tea again). I am grateful there was bubble tea here, even though it wasn't as great, it definitely hit the spot for me.

As for my main course, I ordered the chicken penne pasta with parmesan cheese, definitely bought me back home for a second. Keep in mind these dishes are expensive because pasta is expensive in Korea as well! For those who are craving sandwiches, they bake their bread on the premises which ensures good quality. I took a bite of the curry chicken sandwich, and it was delicious! There is also the hot chocolate that is rich in flavor and topped with a heart shape steam milk creation, like those in cappuccinos.

Lastly, a must have was the cheesecake. Who am I to not go for dessert! Most cheesecakes in Korea are not like those back home, made of pounds and pounds of cream cheese. In fact, cheesecake in Korea contains a bit of cakey texture, which takes out the wow factor. Because I ordered the regular cheesecake topped with a berry sauce, I was amazed at the quality of the cheesecake. It is measurable to those back at home that I pay a lot for. Therefore, the must have from Vecchia & Nuovo is the Oreo cheesecake, which I had to get one to go. Hopefully this $15 cheesecake that is the size of my hand will keep me content until my next discovery of American comfort foods!

Street Food Yum - Dong Dae Mun

There is always great food in shopping areas. One of the more special treats that I found was the french fries stuffed with a hotdog on a stick. I am not big on hot dogs, so I didn't try it, but it looked delicious, considering everyone was practically munching on it. Another note about Korean hot dogs: they're not the same like they are back in the states. Just a FYI for those who are craving for a NY street hotdog.

Aside from street carts, there are those street food vendors that have seating under a plastic tent. Today's street food yum is just that. Be aware that when you order these portions, they are meant to be shared with others. If you are visiting Dong Dae Mun and happen to stop by one of these spots, you will see that they have kimchi pancake, fried fish paste, and other goodies already cooked. You will be shouted at and hollered to come over, but they're extra friendly people trying to get customers.

The only problem with such stands is the sanitation level. It is not as high as you expect because you are sitting on plastic stools, eating off of folding tables out in the street. You will probably be squished because of limited space and may have to give up the extra table that you have for three. There's not such thing as napkins in such areas, they have a roll of toilet paper hanging around for you to grab and use so bring your own if you're big on germs! Keep in mind that most street vendors server their dishes on a plate that is wrapped with a plastic bag. It saves on the dish washing and usually, they just wipe the plates clean.

Aside from the bad, the one good thing is that these vendors have their menu not only in Korean, but Chinese and Japanese as well. There isn't any English, but it was great progress being able to read Chinese and ordering the exact food that I want! The dishes include a stir fried noodle which has pork and vegetables mixed in, as well as a spicy pork dish. Absolutely delicious, a little pricey for two plates of food that cost $24, but it was good!

Shopping Splurge - Dong Dae Mun Cheap Pick Ups

The first official shopping splurge in Korea and it only set me back a total of $100. I know back in New York, this $100 will probably be for one item. This week's shopping spree is all from Dong Dae Mun, by the History and Cultural Park in Seoul, Korea. There are just so much stores and outside shops that you can probably get lost, but the best thing is being able to bargain and getting a good steal. For some items, you can skip the bargaining (like my $8 beige parka jacket).
The only problem with Korea is that there is usually one size fits all. This does not work out to those who are not the typical Korean small. Keep in mind that the size system in Korea is different from that in America, usually a lot smaller.

For my first steal in Korea, I picked up an eight dollar parka jacket, ten dollar extremely warm and thick hoodie, $5 for two pairs of leggings, $3 zebra tights, ten dollar checkered sweater (doesn't look as good as it does on full bodies like me than it does on skinny Korean girls), $15 furry leather gloves and a $7 wrap scarf that is just oh so comfortable.

It is definitely a place for college students looking for a good deal. For girls who love to shop and can bargain. There is a regular mall in the area for those who look for luxury Korean brands and items. Unfortunately for me, we just didn't have enough time to explore. I expect prices to be just like designer brands, which equals to a lot of damage!

My Current Obsession - Naked Palette 2

Many of you, like myself, have been awaiting for the Urban Decay Naked Palette 2. A new palette on the original take that allows you to fulfill all your make up needs for any occasion.

I am excited for this new palette and cannot wait to get it! It is now available at Urban Decay for $50, will reach Sephora, Ulta, beauty.com, and Macy's stores by mid to late January. For those who are like me, internationally located, we will have to wait until February. That is unless you are going to have a friend ship the item over to you, like I will! Yes, it is that much of an obsession to have.

This new palette of colors contain the:
  • Blackout - Blackest black with a matte finish that is repromoted (color is not available individually)
  • Booty Call - Shimmery cork that is new
  • Busted - Deep brown with a shimmery finish that is also new
  • Chopper - A copper shimmer with silver micro glitter (permanent)
  • Foxy - Cream bisque with a matte finish that is repormoted (color not available individually)
  • Half Baked - A golden bronze with shimmery finish (permanent)
  • Pistol - Light grayish brown with a shimmer finish that is newly introduced
  • Snake Bite - A dark bronze shimmer with a metallic base that is new
  • Suspect - Pale golden beige with shimmery finish that is repromoted (color not sold alone)
  • Tease - A creamy pale brown with a matte finish newly introduced
  • Verve - Oyster witha  shimmery finish that is repromoted as well (color not sold alone)
  • YDK - A cool bronze shimmer with metallic base (permanent)
There is also the extra bonus of Naked - A sheer shimmery pinky neutral lip color that practically goes with every look (permanent) and the Good Karma Shadow/Crease Brush - A dual ended brush that helps you create all the looks needed.

It definitely comes in the perfect month, December, a month for Christmas gifts and birthday gifts, or both! Like mine :D

Today's Lunch - Kimbap

One of the most popular eats in Korea is Kimbap, it is practically the most cheapest eats here as well. Today's lunch is the Kimbap that only cost me $3. Absolutely delicious, cheap and filling. This Korean Traditional eat is filled with a sour radish, egg, crab meat, carrot, fishcake, a special topping, and other things depending on the store. This is something that is great for all teachers who are pressed for time, I am always big on small foods that are filling and of course, no one can beat the price! The cheapest I have seen a roll of Kimbap go for is actually $2.

Beauty Pick Up - Happy Bath

It sure is difficult to find American products here in Korea, especially those for a low price. Because I had trouble finding my Aveeno body wash, I settled for the Happy Bath all natural real mild wash that I found at half price for $4. Like the price of Aveeno at regular price back in the states, this is the Korean take on Aveeno. This wash is all mild, perfect for those with sensitive skin, one product I sure recommend to use in place of the American drugstore brand.

Today's Lunch - Korean Burger King

I love going to other countries and trying out their fast food chains because it is their cultural take on the traditional chain stores. Today's lunch was Burger King's Bulgolgi Burger Meal. One thing about Korean fries is that it's not as salty as the American ones. The coke also has a different taste, not my traditional addictive coke because of the difference in sugar.

The Bulgogi Burger is quite special though, it is the made of bulgogi meat, topped with onions and a Korean BBQ sauce as well as a white salad dressing that Koreans love. It is a bit of a peculiar mix, but it is pretty delicious. A meal for the price of $4.60, can't find that in much places in America.

The one thing that I do want to share about this meal is the paper spoons that are folded from a flat piece of paper. I love the creativity and ability to recycle products around here. Note to those who are traveling to Korea: know how to separate your garbage, including fast foods stores like Burger King!

Beauty Pick Me Up - Values from Korea's Daiso Store

Korea is known for their many beauty items and as I started to get settled down and pick up a few items for my apartment, I found Daiso, an extremely cheap store with so many goodies for the house. Because there are so many "cute" items, I ended up having a big splurge and did manage to pick up a few cheap goodies.

For starters, nothing can top fifty cent masks. I decided to only pick up two, strawberry and cucumber to make sure that I am not allergic to such products, although it does say that it is organic. Can never be too sure, especially when trying out new products. If it does work out, it'll be a great steal, even better than my dollar masks!

In addition to the facial masks, I picked up two sets of falsies for just a dollar each. For such a low price, I can just toss it away after use. I usually have a full set of lashes, but I wanted to go for something less dramatic, but still provides length. Hope this works out!

Everyone knows I am big on having my nails done and because I have yet to find nail salons in the area, I will have to settle with doing my own nails for the time being. Because of the extremely cute animals, I picked up a toe separator for pedicures and I also managed to find an awesome four step nail filer that helps to file, remove ridges, smooth and shine your nails. All in one! I just hope it works out great.

Lastly and probably the one that I am most excited about is the paper soap. Many bathrooms in Korea do not have soap dispensers. In fact, they have a bar soap (if even) in bathrooms. Being that I am a big germ-a-phobe, using a bar soap just won't cut it for me. In addition to this, bar soap tends to dry out hands and therefore I had to just try the paper soap that I have heard about from many. Hopefully the lavender will be a great combo with my skin.

As excited as I am to share these products with you, I will be having a giveaway soon!

Makeup Review - Lush Colour Supplement

I didn't expect to pick up my next favorite foundation at Lush, but I sure did prior to my trip to Korea. I was looking for a new foundation for the trip and I found the Lush Colour Supplement. Something that is a little peculiar, but special in its own way. The Lush Colour Supplement allows for you to mix with your daily lotion to create a more even spread. The best thing about the product is it only costs $16 and it lasts a whole year, especially for those who are mixing it with their daily moisturizers. All you need is a dime size (if even) for the whole face and mix with your regular amount of moisturizer.

You can also use the supplement alone to conceal dark areas and such prior to coverage for the face. I am not that big of a fan of using it as a concealer because it just feels too think in one area. Another thing that doesn't really help me is the amount of time I can save when doing my makeup. The one good thing is that I am now living in Korea so I do not have to keep up with the fast pace life of New York. Next time you're in the area, give it a try and pick up a sample. I love Lush for its natural products and great uses!

Sweet Tooth Satisfaction - Sweet Elysium

I’m a big supporter of homemade goodies for sale. Sweet Elysium, currently mastering macarons and cakes, is full of goodies for low prices. I got a box of macarons as a going away present and I am definitely feeling the love. They were so delicious and perfect that I was not willing to share with anyone!

For starters, I am in love with the green tea, sesame, pistachio macarons (very Asian, I know), and the chocolate of course! This is the one thing that I love about the sweet goodies is the originality and creativity behind it. There are just so many flavors to choose from that it is nearly impossible to do so. Sweet Elysium masters small goodies for gift bags and even cakes for small wedding receptions and engagement parties. If I was able to sit there all day and "sample" these goodies, I would!
Those who are interested in picking up these goodies and live in the NJ area, they can be found in a few restaurants and cafes which include I's Cafe in New Brunswick, NJ by Rutgers, and a few restaurants in the NJ area. Please contact Stacy for more information in where her goodies are sold.

For those who are interested in making orders (soon to be shipped around the world), please contact Stacy at sweetelysium.sg@gmail.com. Mention blog for discounts!

DIY – Lip Gloss

Sometimes you are just not able to find the right color lip color you want in store. In addition, lip colors that look good on a friend of yours may not look the same on yours due to your natural lip color. The best and cheapest way to find a lip color that compliments your style is to make it yourself. It’s ridiculously simple!

All you need is Vaseline or some kind of lip balm you can mix an eye shadow color with. I suggest first scraping eye shadow color in a small jar or a contact solution case that is small and portable (just be sure to clean it well prior to use) and mix in the Vaseline. Add as much color as you like to find your perfect lip gloss.

Beauty Review – Olay Regenerist Regenerating Serum

Olay Regenerist is a popular and more expensive drugstore line that seems to be favorable. I remember trying an Olay Regeneris line in the past, but it didn’t work too well with my face because I think I was too young and there was no need for younger looking skin so I decided to switch over to natural goods. Now that I am starting to ‘get older’ I figure to give it a try again.

When it comes to wrinkles and your face’s elasticity, it is better to start early and prevent rather than waiting for the problem to develop and fight it. You have a better chance controlling your face and prolonging the time it takes for wrinkles to set in as opposed to trying to get rid of one. Olay Regenerist’s Regenerating Fragrance-Free Serum uses a highly concentrated amino-peptide plus B3 complex combined with Olay moisture.

With first use of this serum, I had a little tingly sensation in some areas of the face, but overall, it works perfectly with my sensitive skin and psoriasis. I did not feel a burning sensation; the serum glided on perfect and absorbed quickly with my skin. The one thing I am not a fan of is the smell (I have a very sensitive nose, so you might not have this problem). With one application, I felt immediate smoothness on my skin’s surface.

I suggest using this serum twice a day, although daily use is acceptable as well. If the serum does not compliment your skin on first use, you can use it once a day and gradually make your way to twice a day. Olay Regenerist has a four step skin care line that is suggested, but because I love the other products that I am currently using, I am just giving this the go until I feel there’s a need to change my skincare line.

Story of My Life – Finally in Korea

Excuse my absence these past couple of days. I have been busy packing, hanging out with all the great friends that I have, and spending as much time as I could with family. I am finally in Korea over a long 14.5 hour plane ride which was extremely tiring because lack of sleep, but at least I got a window seat with an empty middle seat. I was able to have great room space and sat comfortably the whole ride.

Who would’ve thought I have finally landed in Korea and will begin the next year of my life in a country that I am not so familiar with. My ultimate problem will be the language barrier, but I hope I can surpass that and make my way around. Korea is great for a bunch of things, especially beauty, food and fashion. I definitely plan to scope the area and continue with my daily blogs because I’ve got a few requests to do so.

I also plan to have constant giveaways once I finally settle into my apartment and start to get the hang of things on the other side of the world. Thank you for all the love and support and hope it stays with me!

Traveling Essentials and Tips

Having to pack a whole year of supply into two suitcases is not easy, but I of course, have to make room for makeup and beauty supplies. Because I am away for a year, I had to pick up a few supplies for the trip which includes a few of my obsessions: packs and packs of Softlips, stacking on the Benefit Cosmetic They’re Real Mascara, a few L’Oreal Paris Lineur Intense Brush Tip, boxes of the My Beauty Diary Mask, an extra pair of the fringe holders, and a bunch of my favorite Essie nail polishes that includes: Licorice, Wicked, Fuji, along with the Only Gold For Me and Spark-taular OPI Top Coat.

In addition to the many goodies that I packed for my trip, I realize the importance of space in a suitcase. Being that Korea is extremely cold, I have to pack my comforter and my pillow case because I am too used to my contour pillow I cannot live without out. I realized the importance of packing and have a few tips for those who are travelling as well:
  • Pair lighter items with heavy items. I packed my comforter and pillow with my bottles of contact solution and shower gels and other items. It helps to weigh out the difference and maximize my space as the bottles help to compress my comforter.
  • Zip lock under garments. Using a zip lock bag helps to seal your under garments from bed bugs that can travel from other places. Many of you know I am a true germ-a-phobe so I always pack my clothes into zip lock bags to seal out the many bacteria and contamination.
  • Roll your clothing instead of folding it. Rolling up your clothes and putting it into your suitcase helps to maximize space and reduces the amount of wrinkles and compressed lines that can be found from folding.
  • Pack travel size goodies. Always pack hygiene items that you are used to using. When traveling, it may be difficult to find things that you use so it is smart to carry these items in smaller sizes and hope they will last you for the duration of your trip.
  • Turn contact cases into travel size holders. I am a big fan of using contact cases to hold my moisturizer, concealer and other beauty essentials when traveling. Simply label and estimate the amount you would use normally times the number of days you are traveling for. They come in handy and for those who wear contacts, there are always a great number of contact cases laying around the house.
  • Skip the blow drier and other essentials if you are traveling internationally. Because of voltage differences, it is recommended to just purchase these items while on vacation. Some hotels may even offer these items for you so it helps to save space and reduce any potential hazards and burn outs.

Today’s Lunch – Uncle Gussy’s Food Truck

My last day at NBC lead me to finally try Uncle Gussy’s Food Truck on Park Ave that I have been eyeing for quite a while now. There is always a line at Uncle Gussy’s and now I know why. The Greek cuisine is delicious! Today’s lunch is the Chicken Deluxe Pita which is stuffed with chicken, and I mean stuffed. Sandwiched in a soft and thick pita break, chicken is topped with lettuce, tomato and the traditional white sauce. There is also the option of spicy and fried onions, but I skipped that cause I need to save my breath for the meetings later.

Moral of the story is to try out Uncle Gussy’s Food Truck because the line moves fast and the food is absolutely delicious. There is always a number of business men in the area, and that line is worth the wait. Average price for a meal is at $8. Well worth every penny; it was so good and filling that I was stuffed half way, but I forced myself to finish it because it was just too yummy!

Restaurant Review – Hatsuhana Restaurant

17 East 48 Street
New York, NY
(212)355-3345

Hatsuahana, a restaurant located by Rockefeller is known for their high end Japanese food. Hatsuhana is known for their fresh fish which I definitely back up. When eating at Hatsuhana, there is a set lunch and dinner menu. Lunch prices average at $25 for a set lunch which includes a soup or a salad.

I ordered the Sushi lunch which includes 5 piece sushi, 2 rolls and a salad. For those of you who are not a fan of wasabi, do not order the sushi. The fish is glued to the rice with a dallop of wasabi. It is enough to clear your nose. The food was delicious, well worth its price. Fish are extremely fresh, I do recommend it for a date.

Service was great. Not once did I have to turn around and ask for a refill for my drink. They are constantly walking around with water pitchers and tea pots to fill. Be sure to make reservations ahead of time, even if it’s a few hours prior because they will not have seating upon arrival. There is usually a bunch of business men and women in the area fighting for a seat, and those on dates at night.

Story of My Life – Psoriasis

Many people do not have a good understanding of psoriasis unless of course, they have it. Even with psoriasis, many are unsure of how to care for their skin. I’ve had psoriasis for almost ten years now and it took me quite a while to get used to.

Story of my life: It took me a while to figure out that I got psoriasis because I was only a teenager when I got my first signs of psoriasis on my scalp. My family of course, didn't know what it was and assumed it was a rash that would go away by chopping off my long black hair. So what did they do? Chop off my long black hair and when I say chop, I mean give me a boy's buzz cut. Unfortunately that did not work and I went to at least ten different doctors to find a cure. As the years pass and the stress increased, it has gradually made its wait through the rest of my body, reaching all parts of my body. I am currently struggling with minor patches of psoriasis on my arms, legs, stomach, back, scalp, butt, and even the face. It is quite a struggle to hide my imperfections every day, but I have learned to love my skin and take care of it to minimize the outbreaks. I try to stay away from steroid medications and topical creams, so what I do includes the following:
  • Moisturize daily – I was never a fan of lotion until I have started to use it daily a few months ago. I didn’t believe the difference it actually makes on my skin, but it does help to ease the pain and pulling of the skin. The best time to moisturize is after a hot shower when your skin becomes dried. Be sure to pat dry your skin rather than pulling.
  • Take cool showers – This is a difficult one, especially in the winter, but it is important to not take extremely hot showers. Taking hot showers will irritate the skin and make your psoriasis worse. If needed, take a warm shower and rinse off with cold water.
  • Eat healthy – Psoriasis is due to a bad liver which means it is important to maintain a healthy diet. Skip the soda and unhealthy foods which include fried and oily items. Eating healthy will help your liver which helps your psoriasis. You will notice a difference in the texture of your hair and it helps to lighten the flakes.
  • Stay away from alcohol – Once I drink, I have an immediate breakout the next day. I start itching a lot more and its just uncontrollable. Aside from my 21st birthday, I have not drank for years now. I am not going to lie, I have been drinking lately because it is my last few weeks with my friends in America so I sacrificed my skin a bit. Surprisingly, my breakout was not as bad as it used to be, shows that I have been building my internal system. Yay!
  • Get a full eight hours of sleep every night – This is extremely important for good health and beauty of course. I always stress the importance of getting a full night of rest and I am known for the girl who will not go out just to sleep by 12am. After all these years, it shows on my face with minimal eye bags and dark circles. The best part is I know it works for my skin because on the nights that I stay out until 5am, my skin is irritated and I scratch all night long.
  • Wear gloves to sleep – This is extremely important for those who are like me and scratch a lot. Wearing gloves at night will help to reduce the amount and the intensity of scratching. I have had so many bloody sheets from scratching nonstop, but the gloves actually help to control the itching. It’s like having chicken pox every day.
  • Dont wash your hair every other day – The trick for those with psoriasis in the scalp is to wash your hair back to back and skip a day. This pattern will help to reduce the number of flakes found in the hair.
  • Go to the beach – Whenever possible, stay in the salt water which helps to clear up psoriasis. Trust me when I say, it works like magic. My psoriasis always clears up in the summer time and its the best time for tanning which helps to clear up the white spots after my psoriasis patches disappears. There is also the option of tanning beds in the summer, getting in some UVB rays for your skin. I've only done it once but because I am able to control my skin, I try to stay away from the tanning beds.
The next time you see someone with red spots or flaking in the scalp and skin, don’t assume that they just can’t care for themselves or they have an infectious disease. Psoriasis is not something that all can live with, but it is something that I have no choice about. The best treatment to psoriasis in addition to topical creams is to reduce stress. Unfortunately, living in the New York area, it is impossible to do so. The next best medication—MOVE. This is exactly what I will be doing to see if there is a change for my skin. As for the rest, good luck!

Restaurant Review - Bo Ky Restaurant

Bo Ky Restaurant
(212) 406-2292
80 Bayard St
New YorkNY 10013

A well-known cheap eats spot for Chinese-Vietnamese infused foods. Bo Ky is known for their duck, a must order in their restaurant that is paired with a homemade vinegar-based sauce. You can order the duck as a whole to consume with your entree if eating with a big group, or pair it with some grains. The popular dishes to order with duck are the flat noodle soup and the dry egg noodle. A few of their other popular dishes include the fish wonton soup noodle and the combination fish ball or seafood soup noodle.
Bo Ky is a place for cheap eats and although this restaurant looks extremely old and run down, the food is absolutely amazing. The service is usually quick, almost immediate so you can ensure you'll be eating in no time. The staff is friendly, but can be a bit slow when there isn't a packed house. There's no system of service there, so try to get the attention of anyone that you can. If you're not comfortable with eating in the restaurant, be sure to order the duck as an extra dish for dinner!

My Current Obsession – Lancome Artliner

I have always been a fan of extremely dark eyeliner and its taken me a while to find something other than the Bobbi Brown gel liner that I have been using for a while now. The only problem about using a gel liner is the amount of trouble to put on the liner, clean your brush and dry your brush daily. It starts to get to be a pain in the butt, especially when I’m in a rush out of the house.

My recent discover is Lancome’s Artliner. The soft, precision tip liner provides accurate top and bottom lid coverage with just a simple shake before use. This is definitely a long lasting eyeliner, providing me with the blackest black that I strive for when it comes to eyeliners. It is a must have in my opinion!

Sweet Tooth Satisfaction - Spot Dessert Bar

Spot Dessert Bar
13 St Marks Place
New York, NY 10003
(212) 677-5670
A hidden little shop in St. Marks is filled with absolute goodies, made for those with sweet tooths just like me. It was practically heaven, a great place for girls to bond and to share a dessert with your significant other. My personal suggestion is to go with a group and order their specials that come with 3-5 dessert tapas. This way you get to sample a bunch of their goodies of your choice!

Between three, we ordered the tapa special: Chocolate Green Tea Lava (green tea-white chocolate ganach, green tea ice cream), Yuzu Eskimo (blackberries, raspberry foam, chocolate pearls, oreo soil, chocolate ganache), and the White Miso Semifreddo (raspberries, EVOO, almond tuile, raspberry sorbet). Fruits may vary depending on the season.

My personal favorite is the Chocolate Green Tea Lava cake. I am big on chocolate and it was the perfect chocolate cake, a blast of flavor. In addition to the Chocolate Green Tea Lava dessert as a whole, the raspberry sorbet is delicious as well. A drink that I was extremely excited about was the Lychee Matcha Bubble Tea. Although it sounds great and it is a popular drink, it was not of my taste because the tea taste overpowered the lychee flavoring. I admit that I loved the bubbles, I just couldn’t stop drinking because of the bubbles!
On the down side, space is extremely limited at Spot. Another unfortunate matter is the horrible service. It takes quite a while to get the attention of the staff when you are dining in. They seem to pay more attention to those that are ordering desserts to go. I will likely return again, just probably not for dine-in service.

Sweet Tooth Satisfaction - neuhaus chocolate

neuhaus chocolate, another Belgian chocolate surprise around my company that is famous for its pralines. I bit my tongue today, picking up only two pieces of chocolates which includes the chocolate truffle and almond praline. It only cost me four bucks today! That's pretty average for a fresh piece of chocolate at two dollars a pop.

I really can't recall the last time I did not enjoy a chocolate truffle, especially one that is dusted with cocoa powder. I feel that the dark cocoa powder helps to trigger the chocolate taste buds as the rest of the chocolate just melts in your mouth. Absolutely delicious! As for the almond praline, the beautifully built exterior made me not want to eat the chocolate, but as I bit into it, the gush of caramel-texture that comes running out. Doesn't have a blast of almond taste, but its not bad. Don't mind my photo, the dusting of the chocolate makes it look dirty.

My Current Obsession – Sephora by OPI Nail Design Pen

Since my last OPI obsession, I’ve learned to love the brand for what they offer, including the Nail Colour Remover, and now there’s the Sephora by OPI Nail Design Pen. This pen comes in a variety of colors, which includes white, gold, purple, blue, pink and green. The brush helps to draw fine lines and it is great for making custom designs, which include finishing off a French manicure. It is just like using a pen, but allow you to create nail art. Give it a try the next time you drop by your local Sephora.

Restaurant Review - Ramen Setagaya

Ramen Setagaya
34½ St Marks Place
New York, NY 11101
(212) 387-7959

One of the best ramen spots in St. Marks can be found in a little store called Ramen Setagaya where seating is limited, but food is delicious. The restaurant does not look so appealing, but there is quite a wait at times.

Ramen dishes average a price of $10 and appetizers range from $3-5. For an appetizer, I recommend the Taco Wasabi that is chopped raw baby octopus marinated with wasabi. Although it seems that it will be an overpowering wasabi taste, the wasabi actually compliments the raw octopus, a definite recommendation. For the entrĂ©e, I ordered the Miso Ramen that consists of two pieces of BBQ salt, half of a salted egg, bamboo shoot, beansprout, cabbage, and scallions.

Service is extremely quick at Ramen Setagaya, so quick that there wasn’t much time to contemplate about. Personally, I went during a less busy hour and so food and service was satisfactory. I just wish I didn’t have to stare out of a window, eating when facing a blue wall.

Restaurant Review - Song

Song
295 Fifth Ave
Brooklyn, NY 11215
(718)965-1108

Song has been one of my favorite Thai restaurants for their low and affordable prices and abundant amounts of food. Aside from what everyone scours for when going out to eat, the food at Song is delicious! The must order dish at Song is their fried calamari, only eight bucks for a large (right) which can be shared with a gang of four, or two if you’re a big calamari eater.

It’s practically always a packed house at Song and even with that, they have not raised prices on their food with an average of $7 an entree. My favorite dish is the Beef Pad See Ew, which is an order always to be made along with the Thai Iced Tea. Service at Song may not be the best on a busy night, just be sure to not go when you’re absolutely starving (like I am most times). Atmosphere at Song is good enough for a date—I had my first date there—with candle lighting, outdoor seating.

Upon entering the restaurant, there’s a bar where you can hang and order drinks while you wait for seating. The open kitchen allows you to ensure that there will less likely be any problems with your food. Almost all entrees fall under ten dollars which is an extremely cheap eat for dinner so its definitely a great place to go out with friends. It may be a little hard to look for parking, so give yourself time to do so.
